Modern Woodmen of America selects IPD's Solution Suite for Imaging & Workflow.Bloomfield Hills, Michigan--November 20, 2000 Image Process Design (IPD), the leading provider of workflow, process automation and content management solutions for the insurance industry, announced that it has been selected by Modern Woodmen of America, the nation’s fifth largest fraternal life insurance society, to install its Solutions Suite product. Modern Woodmen plans to begin initial phases of deployment and testing of the system during the first quarter of 2001, and intends on using it to achieve more efficient storage, retrieval, and processing of underwriting, customer service, and claims processing information. As an organization with over $4.6 billion in assets and $25.8 billion of life insurance in force, Modern Woodmen of America might well look like a typical U.S. corporation on paper. After all, it ranks in the top 10 percent of all life insurers in the United States with more than 750,000 members. Financial performance and size, however, are two places where Modern Woodsmen’s similarity to other successful life insurance companies ends. Founded in 1883 in Lyons, Iowa, Modern Woodmen is a “fraternal organization” –a member-based society dedicated to enhancing family financial security, positive family life, and providing service to community. It operates over 2,000 non-sectarian local camps and nearly 750 youth service clubs nationwide, putting over sixteen million dollars back into the lives of its members and their communities each year. “There is a real soul behind this organization, “ explained Pat Saunders, Modern Woodmen’s supervisor of special projects and acting manager for the imaging and workflow project. “It’s a completely different focus than you may find at commercial insurance companies.” This focus on the well-being of its members is central to why the benefits of IPD’s imaging and workflow system are so important to Modern Woodmen. Says Saunders, “Our objectives are to make our members, representatives, and employees lives easier and more secure. By eliminating our paper-based workflow and file storage system, we think IPD’s Solution Suite will help us provide better service and more secure storage.” With over twenty-nine million paper documents in storage and over 300 new members joining each day, phase one of the project will focus on converting incoming underwriting, membership, and claim documents into aggregated electronic work objects. This will be accomplished using high-speed scanners and data entry software installed by IPD. Archived documents stored in its Central Records department will be digitized on a “go-forward” (only as needed) basis. Saunders expects this first step to quickly facilitate faster retrieval, offsite backup, and integration with its mainframe legacy system. Phase two of the project will begin deploying workflow on a department-by-department basis. “This is where we really expect to achieve some significant gains in efficiency-to really raise the bar on service,” said Saunders. “In fact, our “Impact Team” identified 338 separate processes that IPD’s system would positively affect.” The choice of IPD over other vendors who competed for Modern Woodmen’s business came after a methodical evaluation process that included retaining independent consulting services. “It didn’t take long for IPD to make the short list of three firms,” said Saunders, describing the selection process. “It became very clear to our Imaging Committee that IPD and FileNet had the experience and stability to be long-term partners. I think what cinched it was our visit to GALIC [Great American Life Insurance Company] in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were extremely enthusiastic about IPD – their company, systems and project management skills. We think they have the stature to make this project a complete success for Modern Woodmen.” About Image Process Design (IPD) Founded in 1991, IPD, Inc.
